Hezbollah supporters surround US embassy in Iraq

The vicinity of the American embassy in Baghdad is witnessing tension after supporters of battalions belonging to Hezbollah and the Iraqi Popular Mobilization carried out an open sit-in, calling for the embassy to be closed and the ambassador expelled.

Today, the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades announced an open sit-in in front of the American embassy in Baghdad until the embassy closed and the ambassador was expelled.

According to al-Sumaria, the Secretary-General of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq movement and the Secretary-General of the Badr Hadi al-Amiri organization appeared this morning in front of the American embassy in the Green Zone, central Baghdad.

And Sky News said: The protesters are burning the US embassy guard posts in Baghdad.

She added that supporters of Hezbollah, Iraq, had smashed the windows of the American embassy building.

Reuters quoted Iraqi Foreign Ministry officials as saying that the American ambassador and embassy staff in Baghdad had been evacuated.

On Sunday, American forces launched a series of raids on the bases of the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades close to Iran, killing at least 25 fighters, after a missile attack that killed an American civilian contractor in Iraq.

The raids on the bases and armories of Hezbollah brigades at the Iraqi-Syrian border came two months after an unprecedented escalation in the level of missile attacks targeting American interests in Iraq.
