Riyad Derar: We strived to reformulate political process with several countries 

The Syrian Democratic Council has intensified recently its movements and tours in several Western and Arab countries, the most of which was Egypt, in an attempt to revive the Syrian political process with the participation of representatives of north and east Syria.

About that, the joint head of the Syrian Democratic Council, Riyad Derar stated to Hawar news agency, “We got away from the political process during the last period because of the Turkish veto, which was trying to get us out of the it, so we sought with the countries with which we had meetings to reshape the political process.”

Derar added, “Egypt's role is very important in the region, and influential among the Arab countries, as after the Turkish aggression against the regions of northern and eastern Syria, the Arab foreign ministers called for taking a position, and our presence with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shokry, was a strong impetus for us diplomatically within the current moves to confront the aggression. This also opens a way for the diplomatic work with many countries, and Egypt was a key for that.”

Derar continued, “After the Turkish aggression, we started our tour of many countries, and we met great events at the level of the countries, foreign ministers and ambassadors, as well as representatives of parliaments, and we tried to deliver the true depiction to them because they are absent from them due to the media effects that come without facts.”

About the movements of the so-called Syrian opposition, Derar said, “The nature of the Syrian opposition's movement, the mistakes it committed and also its fall in the bosom of Turkey and its loyalties to the Turkish policy make the countries, that also play an active role in the political solution, affected by the movement and actions of those opponents because they sit in the bosom of Riyadh and support the Turkish side. This is unacceptable, and they must work for Syria, benefiting from the support of states.”

Derar added, “What is happening now is that the opposition is linked to the Turkish side that hostiles the Arabs and the region, and works to spread its Ottoman project, and therefore it affects the policy of the region and the Syrian opposition in support of its work and opinion. This is unacceptable and makes changing this opposition very necessary.”

The joint head of the Syrian Democratic Council concluded his speech, “The affected countries of the Turkish position will work to change this direction, which has deviated from its goals. I believe that their position is correct and there must be an effective and influential change.”
