Nechirvan Barzani: Barham Salih is under pressure; crisis must be resolved

The president of the region said in a statement issued today: "While the threat of instability and further complicating the situation warns the country is moving towards an unknown future, it is imperative for everyone to deal with the situation with understanding, in a national spirit and with responsibility, and away from political pressure to pass the stage according to constitutional contexts."

He added that "to choose a national and non-controversial candidate for prime minister who is acceptable to the influential forces, the legitimate demands of the demonstrators and the conditions and interests of the country should be taken into consideration when choosing it, and that assistance be provided to the next government for the purpose of passing the next transitional period, and preparing for new elections."

Barzani confirmed that Iraqi President Barham Salih is under great pressure.

And the Iraqi president refused, on Thursday, to assign the building block candidate, Asaad al-Eidani, to head the next government, saying: He prefers to resign over appointing a person who will be rejected by protesters, while al-Eidani is the third candidate to announce that the protesters refused to assign him to the post.

And large protests invaded Iraq, since October 1, during which more than 500 people were killed, and the demonstrators demanding a comprehensive change in the political system.
