Shy Russian opposition to Turkey's intervention in Libya

Today, Russia expressed its concern about the Libyan situation, and announced its timid refusal to Turkish military intervention in Libya, considering that any external interference will not help in reaching a settlement.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a press conference today: "The situation in Libya raises general concern, including ours," noting that "Russia is interested in reaching a peaceful settlement as soon as possible and stopping the bloodshed there."

Commenting on Turkey's intention to send troops to Libya, Peskov said: "We consider that any interference by other countries in the Libyan situation will not help in reaching a settlement."

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today that his country has received a request for support from accord government headed by al-Sarraj, and will do so.

The Turkish move came after talks with Russia during the past two days, after which the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that an agreement had been reached on the situation in Libya, and Turkish moves in Libya had provoked international and regional anger.
