Most of the farmers in northern and eastern Syria were affected in the last year’s season by the arsonist fires, which led to the burning of large areas of agricultural land, so the Autonomous Administration initiated the formation of committees to count the areas that were burned and compensate the farmers by distributing seeds to them.

The Agricultural Community Development Company in Dêrik and its countryside distributed 890 tons of wheat seed and 198 tons of barley seed to those affected in Dêrik area and its countryside.

In this context, our agency, ANHA, held a meeting with the joint head of the Agricultural Development Company in Dêrik Youssef Othman and said, “The mechanism of distributing wheat and barley seed as compensation to the affected people, whose crops were burned in the last season through external attacks on the region, the outbreak of fires in vast areas to create internal chaos, fight peasants' food and burn their crops, is an exceptional case in all respects.”

The Committees of the Agricultural Community Development Company initiated the formation of specialized committees in villages and districts, and the formation of schedules of areas and names of the affected to compensate the farmers whose agricultural seasons were damaged by artificial fires.

Othman confirmed, “The quantity distributed to the farmers of Dêrik area and its environs amounted to 890 tons of wheat, and 198 tons of barley for those affected as compensation as a result of the fires that broke out in the agricultural lands.”

On the preparations for the current season and the distribution of seeds, Othman indicated, “The majority of the region depends on agriculture, so the Agricultural Community Development Company distributed sterilized and sifted seeds, which amounted to 3,095 tons of all varieties to the farmers, in addition to fertilizer material for the current season, according to the area and the agricultural licenses supervised by the relevant committees.”

On the quality of the seeds, Othman said, “The quality of the seeds in the company are free of all diseases, and they are sifted and sterilized within the agricultural specifications, so the seeds distributed by the Agricultural Community Development Company in Dêrik are free of nematode disease that damages production and yield. And the farmers are required to be careful about the quality of the seeds when purchasing them from other places to ensure that the seeds are free of diseases, especially nematode, which greatly affects production.”

The joint head of the Agricultural Society Development Company, Youssef Othman, ended his speech by saying, "The company provides facilities for the farmers and provides all the supplies that farmers need; securing seeds and fertilizer.”
