Israeli president instructs Netanyahu to form new government

Israeli Prime Minister Reuven Rivlin on Monday ordered Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu to form the new Israeli government after a failed unity government investigation with the leader of the Kaḥol Lavan party, Benny Gantz.

Israeli media said that "negotiations between Netanyahu and Gantz to form a" government of national unity "failed, and Rivlin instructs Netanyahu to form a new government within 28 days."

It added: "It was held at 6 pm Wednesday, a meeting at the home of President Rivlin in the presence of both Netanyahu, leader of the Likud Party, and Benny Gantz, leader of a blue-white party."

According to Israeli media, if Netanyahu fails to form a new government within his mandate, Israel will head for a third Knesset election soon.

The Likud party, headed by Netanyahu, has received 56 recommendations from the 61 members of the Israeli Knesset to authorize him to form a government, while Gantz received 54, and the two parties entered into negotiations to form a unified government, headed by Netanyahu and Gantz alternately, but this was met with failure, and the announcement of the Israeli president assigning Netanyahu to form a government.
