“Kanaus Island, located on the Tigris River south of the Iraqi city of Mosul, is an important transit point for ISIS militants in and out of Syria,” the US-led coalition said.

"We are denying ISIS the possibility of hiding in Kanaus Island and providing conditions for allied forces to continue to bring stability to the region," said Major General Eric Hill, Commanding General of Special Operations Joint Task Force.

"This is what it looks like when F15 and F35 fighters drop more than 36,000 kilograms on an IS-infested island," Hill said in a tweet on Twitter.
