Al-Arishah refugees fear to spread diseases among children

Refugees' suffering is increasing in the camp after the heavy rains fall in al-Hasakah canton, which caused large floods to al-Arishah camp, the camp administration transferred refugees to the west of the camp.

The displaced woman Fatima Ahmed al-Muhammad from Deir-ez-Zor, who came out of the neighborhoods that were under the control of Daesh mercenaries, "After the rise of the Southern Dam, we are afraid of the spread of diseases such as smallpox, leishmaniosis, cholera, diarrhea, hepatitis, malaria because of the contaminated water, where the dam and sewage water have mixed together and children play with this water," she said.

In this regard, our agency, Hawar news (ANHA) conducted a meeting with the administrator of the Kurdish Red Crescent branch Alan Mohammed, who began by saying: "In this period of the year, there was a lot of rain which caused floods, damaged about 1,200 tents, and made the children of this water a game for them, they do not know what are they doing, and their families do not know how dangerous this water is to their children's lives."

Alan Mohammed pointed out that the Kurdish Red Crescent made a decision from the beginning of April to give lectures on health awareness inside the camp, including team of 12 people, to educate the people about the dangers of contaminated water and how to sterilize it.

Mohammed also said that the Kurdish Red Crescent Medical Center is working in al-Arishah camp to receive continuously displaced patients, through internal clinics, women, children, medical laboratory, pharmacy and ambulances to transport critical cases to the hospital in al-Hasakah city. The Kurdish Red Crescent also receives daily between 150 and 200 people at the medical point.
