The efforts and claims of the Turkish occupation state having the right to supervise any buffer zone in the north and east of Syria have provoked condemnation among the social, legal and political circles in view of the fact that the Turkish policy is hostile to the rights of peoples and components, and it has political ambitions in occupying the neighboring lands.

The juristic activist Abbas Sami talked to Hawar news agency on this matter, and stressed that Turkey takes a great responsibility for everything that is happening in Syria, and it is surprising that it calls for supervision of a buffer zone.

''How can an occupying country oversee a buffer zone?

Sami said in this regard, "How an occupying country to oversee a buffer zone while the history witnesses the worst crimes committed by the Turkish state against the Armenians, Kurds and the rest of the people of Turkey. Since the beginning of 2011, the beginning of the Syrian revolution, the Syrian territories have been the focus of its ambitions. The violations of the Turkish state affected several areas such as al-Bab and Jarablus, and what we saw in Afrin and other areas confirms the reality of the Turkish state."

Abbas Sami said that after the US president's decision to withdraw from Syria, Erdogan announced through the media that he will start a military campaign in the areas of East Euphrates in cooperation with 12,000 mercenaries of the militant Islamic factions loyal to it, which will lead to a humanitarian disaster in the regions of northern Syria along the lines what happened in Afrin, al-Bab and Azaz which were exposed to the worst forms of systematic violations and destruction of infrastructure.

'Turkish proposal for the buffer zone is contrary to international law'

Sami referred to the definitions of legal frameworks for the buffer zone and said that the buffer zone means the establishment of a specific area separating the two parties of the conflict under the supervision and control of an international force to prevent the use of weapons between the two parties by forming a distance separating them, often land and can be an air embargo.

He noted that the buffer zone does not intend to separate the conflicting parties, but to provide safe haven for the civilians fleeing war and to provide them with the necessary help and protection.

According to the international custom, a buffer zone was established by a decision of the Security Council. It is agreed between the conflicting parties to establish it, demilitarize it and subject it to the civil administration, in addition to providing military protection by the UN forces, as happened in South Kurdistan to be as a safe haven for 400,000 Kurds returning them from the Turkish border after fleeing the regime of Saddam Hussein.

He stressed that the buffer zone that the Turkish state wants to establish and supervise with its factions is contrary to the concept of the buffer zone due to the Turkish state's bad reputation in terms of the repeated violations to occupy the lands and violate the rights of the neighboring peoples.

The juristic activist, Abbas Sami, said that it is better to establish the buffer zone under international supervision according to the international custom of buffer zones and protect the people from the Turkish evil, stressing that the regional buffer zone's strategy will only work by the presence of international powers.
