Hidden war between Israel-Iran in Syria

An Israeli general said they began targeting Iranian forces in Syria by the beginning of 2017 and said they threw more than 2,000 bombs in 2018, pointing out that Israeli strikes were aimed at facilities without soldiers to avoid giving Iran a reason to respond.

The British "Sunday Times" published a report by Anshel Pfeffer on the "hidden war" between Israel and Iran in Syria.

The writer says the Israeli general who led operations to prevent Iran from extending its influence in the Middle East has counted "thousands of attacks" on Iranian forces in Syria.

General Gadi Eisekot, according to the report, Israel began to attack Iranian sites in Syria in January 2017, and the attacks were occurring almost every week without permission.

Eisenkot explained that Israel's main objective in this hidden war is represented in the Revolutionary Guard and al-Quds Corpse, and that Israel carried out thousands of attacks against Iranian sites in Syria and in 2018 it had thrown 2,000 bombs.

Since the start of the armed conflict in Syria in 2011, Israel has launched air strikes on convoys carrying Iranian weapons to the Lebanese Hezbollah, but has not targeted the Iranians themselves.

Eisenkot added that Iran began in 2016 attempts to fill the vacuum left behind ISIS after its defeat under the blows of the International Coalition, pointing out that Iran's plan was to include the deployment of 100 thousand fighters in Syria by the end of 2018, according to the report.

The Israeli general explained that Tehran was bringing these fighters from Pakistan, Iraq and Afghanistan, and that it had established spy bases on al-Golan Heights border.

In order to avoid giving Iran a reason to respond the Israeli strikes, according to the newspaper, targeting the installations without soldiers. The number of Iranian victims in all these Israeli attacks was only a few dozen, according to the Israeli general who added that Iran knew who was attacking it.

The report said that on 10 October 2018, Iran sent a plane carrying explosives in Israeli airspace, the first direct attack by Iran against Israel.

The general said Israel had responded by killing 10 Iranian soldiers, including a pilot in the Revolutionary Guards. Then Iran decided to carry out attacks on northern Israel, according to the newspaper.
