Municipality of Serêkaniyê takes measures on landslides

The city of Serêkaniyê is located in al-Hasakah canton of al-Jazeera region. It was named Serêkaniyê due to the existence of 360 springs. The springs supplied the area with water and fed al-Khabur River until 2002. These springs had been dried up because of the climatic changes and the policies of the Turkish occupation state applied to the Kurdish areas, but lately in the last week, the soil collapsed and the land raged in a house in Ronahi neighborhood in the city.

On this subject, the administrator in the technical department in the People's Municipality in Serêkaniyê city Abdul Aziz Osi explained that a family living in Ronahi neighborhood in the city had informed them of cracks in the walls of their house last week " the municipality has alerted the family of the necessity to get out of the house, and after the departure of the family, the house had fallen down

It is prohibited to build houses without conducting a survey on the site

"We can not prevent anyone from building houses now, but we have stopped granting construction permits since the beginning of November," he said. "Those who build should be aware that engineers have to conduct the construction site. there is a vacuum under the ground in Serêkaniyê, in addition to a white soil have exposed to drift in case of exposure to drought or excessive moisture and there are some rock areas and currently can be built above the rocky areas only and prevents the construction of more than three floors.
