The Turkish occupation entered after last November 19 a new phase in the north of Syria in general and Afrin in particular, local and international media have dealt with the subject of "security campaign" launched by the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation in the so-called "National Army" against some of the other mercenaries who were fighting each other because of robberies and looting operation.

The mercenaries, who called themselves the "National Army", announced in the morning of the nineteenth of this month the imposition of a curfew on Afrin city for what it called "an operation to target the factions that carry out looting and robbery in the city," completely forgetting that these violations were continuing throughout 8 months since the occupation of Afrin and its countryside on last March 18.

The curfew, which was a surprise to all residents of Afrin without its seven districts came after they announced to closure all roads leading to the city and strengthen the barriers with the mercenaries of National Army and Military Police which accompanied with large Turkish media compared to what it was before to show that this operation is a serious step to improve the situation of civilians in Afrin city.

A security or a military operation?

A few hours after the announcement of the curfew, violent clashes broke out among the mercenaries using all heavy weapons; Germany cannons and tanks, and the testimonies obtained from inside the city indicated that it was a military operation not security to settle internal scores between the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries.

Violent clashes, artillery shelling on the residential areas of the city, bodies in the alleys of the streets, bullets in and around the city, the lack of urban life in the city, hospitals do not receive patients with emergency aid, and the bakeries were not supplying the people with daily bread. This was the case of Afrin when the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation fought in a city inhabited by more than 100,000 people, most of whom are settlers who were settled by Turkey after its agreements with Russia.

There were no major points of clashes in the city that day because the mercenaries since the occupation of the city have taken headquarters and settled their families in the homes of the displaced Afrin, in other words the mercenaries are distributed throughout the city, divided into states that prevent the elements of the other faction to enter the other area, but the clashes as the media noted erupted between the National Army and al-Hemzat factions against Shohda al-Sharqiyah faction.

The Turkish reconnaissance planes were hovering, the buzzing sound of their annoying engines reminded the people of their memories in the first quarter of this year in the cellars for fear of warplanes. The mercenaries were circulating through their media messages directly, describing even some media of the Turkish occupation of al-Sharqiyah Faction as the terrorists, the same faction who were considered "revolutionary" until that today.

The clashes, which were amplified by the Turkish media, convinced the international public opinion that it was a security operation to eradicate what it called "terrorists." However, this security operation remained without any Turkish political comment. The arrest of the journalist Bilal Seryoul by the Sultan and torturing him and releasing him later was the main title to start this campaign.

On the other side, there was clear evidence of demonization of this operation, namely that the faction that kidnapped Bilal and tortured him was Sultan Murad mercenaries supported by Turkey, but the campaign targeted Shohda al-Sharqiyah who picked clashes with the fronts of the Syrian regime, which has Russian control points in the countryside of Western Aleppo in the last period, and most of the factions participating in this campaign were Turkmen, including Lewa Sultan Murad and Lewa Suleiman Shah.

The campaign in Afrin ended with the departure of al-Sharqiyah mercenaries from the city towards Janders in the villages bordering Idlib to re-establish their presence in those areas. Many videos were published showing the fighters of al-Sharqiyah, who were synonymous with each other as they left one of the headquarters.

Looting during the arrest of the looters!!

During the curfew and violent clashes, dozens of National Army fighters and the participating factions were busy plundering the civilians' houses they had entered under the pretext of building barricades for clashes. Khadija, who was there, reported that the mercenaries had stolen her house during the storming and taken out an estimated 400 thousand Syrian pounds and some electrical household equipment.

The participating factions against Shohda al-Sharqiyah were the National Army, the Military Police, Lewa al-Sultan Murad and Lewa Suleiman Shah. The latter are known for being Turks rather than Syrians. The commander of Sultan Suleiman Shah has imposed a tax up to 30 percent on farmers in Shia district of the olive harvest. He raped one of the Arab women while he held the pilgrimage on the time when his group kidnapped children, cut down olive trees and seized civilians' houses such as the Kurdish house in Qarmatleq village of Shia district.

While Sultan Murad is the faction that prevents the villagers of Barava from returning to their homes in order to turn the entire village with its lands and civilians' homes into a military base and a resort for the families of its fighters. The displaced people live among the villages in Afrin and the forced displacement camps in the areas of al-Shahba. It is the same faction that arrested dozens of civilians that have been arrested and tortured during the past period and one of the main factions in the theft of the factories of Aleppo, the economic capital of Syria and transferred them to Turkish territory.

The latest scandal of the National Army was the scandal of their chief of staff, Haitham al-Afisi, whose pictures in morally reprehensible positions in a brothel were leaked that coincided with the start of the campaign in Afrin. Everyone accused the Turkish intelligence which posts such photos for the commanders of mercenary factions in order to support its pretexts to stay inside Syria.

How does the Ottoman benefit?

The law of the jungle in the area occupied by Turkey two years ago, and the kidnapping, looting and daily plundering operations by the mercenaries and the Turkish occupation have been of great benefit to the Turkish government. The processes of demographic change have continued since then because of the harassment of the people by the mercenaries, which led to the evacuation of the occupied region in the north by up to 60 percent, while the percentage in Afrin reached to 70 percent, where more than 30 other Kurdish families fled Afrin after the security operation to other areas.

The second benefit is that all its mercenaries remain in need of it, that is to keep them in need of logistical support. Turkey's monthly salary for its mercenaries does not reach 500 Turkish liras, less than $ 100, Knowing that it has plundered billions of dollars of the goods of the Syrian territory through these mercenaries over the past six years, it encourages the theft and looting indirectly.

While in the third interest, it is trying through the plays performed like such security campaigns and some of the Turkish criminal courts, and even its attempt sometimes a little to arrest the perpetrators of violations, all that are for showing their forces inside Syria as forces of peace not occupied forces. It was evident in Afrin that they were encouraging the factions to steal, loot and kidnap for the affected to go to the Turkish bases to demand their rights.

In this way, Turkey tries to present itself as the good father in Syria and the savior to the people and their problems, knowing that the Turkish army's forces are primarily the biggest spoilers in the Syrian land by shelling the archaeological areas and uprooting trees. The latest was the scandal of the arrest of the Turkish officers in a brothel in Afrin, in addition to killing hundreds of civilians, mostly children and women during the military occupation.

In the fourth point, with the start of this campaign, Turkey was able to cover the ongoing violations in the region afoot. As the clashes intensified violently in the center of Afrin city, the mercenaries of Lewa Suleiman Shah led by Abu Amsha who occupy Shia and its villages completely have kidnapped two men from Shia district and demanded their families a ransom of 4 million Syrian pounds, or about $8,500.,

The issue of Afrin and the daily violations that are taking place are not one of the main news, not even the sub-subsidiary of many international media because there are media policies that are concerned with the interest of the government before the people, and this is clear in the media policy of Justice and Development Party in the case of trading in Khashoggi and the arrest of journalists and parliamentarians at home and the closure of opposition media institutions.

After the end of the security campaign violations are still ongoing

The campaign that increased the treasury of stolen goods in the pockets of the factions did not benefit at all. A few days after the end of the security campaign, the series of public violations began to recur in Afrin and its villages. In Joqe village in Afrin city, mercenaries of al-Hemzat faction seized dozens of houses and turned them into military headquarters and the resettlement of their families in the homes of the displaced and expatriates from the village, according to the Syrian human rights source.

In addition to imposing ransoms of oil on the villagers, who are known for their safety with all their neighbors, on November 15, Suleiman Shah faction led by Abu Amsha, the "security campaign participant," kidnapped nine people (one man, seven women and one child) from Shea, and demanded the kidnapped families to pay 25 thousand dollars in exchange for their release.

While some of the masked mercenaries attacked an office of remittances near Newroz Roundabout in the center of Afrin, and stole a sum estimated by $ 15 thousand varied between the Turkish lira and the Syrian and US dollars, seriously injuring the office owner as a result of live bullets.

The date is examined and not coincidental

Turkey's timing and moving its mercenaries were not coincidental. That came with the new Astana contract, new embarrassments in the tactical relationship between the Ottomans and Russia in the region, and Turkey's attempt to demonstrate its seriousness in the Turkish-Russian agreement by controlling its mercenaries or rather the factions that Russia wants to control.

The situation of Idlib, the crisis under the progress of Jabhet al-Nusra and control of some points and new towns and with the continuation of the Russian-Turkish agreement put the Turkish side in an embarrassing situation to with Russian counterpart, analysts are likely to be a Turkish mission to try to reassure the Russians that it is serious in fighting factions, some other observers, on the contrary, may be a message to Russia that Turkey fully controls the factions, giving Turkey a good position in the negotiations of the constitutional commission.

Bakr Sidqi, one of the Syrian Kurdish writers during one of his articles on the Turkish security campaign in the north of Syria, said that "the People's Democratic Party, the political representative of Turkey's Kurdish parliament, has already raised the issue of the violations of the Turkish factions in Afrin region, but the Turkish government rejected with contempt, and denied their occurrence.

It comes to the beginning of preparations for the municipal elections in March 2019, but the battle began now? Where the government tries to win the heart of the Kurdish voter in order to win the municipalities of the south-eastern regions of Anatolia, which is densely populated Kurdish, but the voting of the Kurdish voter is also important in some major cities in the west of the country, such as Istanbul.

It is known that the competition for the votes of the Kurds is mainly between the Peoples Party (HDP) and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). All or some of these possibilities may be behind the security operation in Afrin, and it is said that it will also extend to Jarabulus, al-Bab and other towns and villages of the Euphrates Shield area. However, it is necessary to mention some "analyzes" of pro-Turkish newspapers that politicized the security operation to the extent that the "Shohda al-Sharqiyah" were accused of receiving money from "Gulf states" to fabricate the confusion of the Turkish government against the backdrop of the Saudi tension Turkish on the murder of Jamal Khashoggi!
