Cyprus filed formal complaint to UN against Turkey

Cyprus has protested Cyprus' persistent violations of its airspace and territorial waters. The Cypriot Mail website reported that the Deputy Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the United Nations, Ms. Polly Ioannou, sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, distributed on Thursday. The letter contains two documents detailing Turkish violations during August 2018.

Ms. Polly Ioannou  said in her letter "The continuation of these policies by Turkey violates international law, violates international rules and regulations, poses a continuing threat to international peace and security, has a negative impact on regional stability, endangers the safety of international civil aviation and creates difficulties in preventing Cypriot air traffic."

Cypriot Mail website said "Turkey continued to systematically harass civilian and military aircraft in Flight Information Area in Nicosia through radio calls."

The letter added, "It is clear that these measures are aimed at undermining the sovereignty of Cyprus, strengthening the current effective division and modernizing the status of the separatist entity by claiming an alleged airspace over the occupied territories of the Republic," the letter said.

The letter added, "There is only one Cypriot state, the Republic of Cyprus, which is stipulated in various resolutions of the Security Council,"

It is worth mentioning that the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, was a military invasion Turkey began on July 20, 1974 until August of the same year.
