Avrin Cinema Commune... Cinematic works embody Resistance of Age

Avrin Cinema Commune was founded in Afrin canton in August 2017 with the aim of developing the film sector, preparing the cadres and producing cinematographic works. The commune initially was consisted of only six people who worked under simple means, but their work coincided with the attacks of the Turkish occupation army against Afrin in January of 2018. Thus, Avrin Cinema Commune's cameras headed to document the events of the Resistance of the Age.

The works which have been achieved in Afrin

The commune has achieved several acts in a short period when it was in Afrin canton before being occupied by the Turkish occupation army on 18 March.

Where the commune has prepared documentary and short films with different contents, "Waiting for Life, The Red Olive, The Creators of Hope" and during the Resistance of the Age, short propaganda showing resistance was prepared.

The commune also managed to reach al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo and prepare documentaries and short films.

Reaching al-Shahba and organizing the commune again

After the forcible departure from Afrin to al-Shahba canton, the works of Avrin Cinema Commune was initially affected by the dispersion of the commune's members, but in a short time, the commune managed to reorganize itself to begin a new process of work and creativity, where it includes 8 members now.

The members of the commune are in the form of specialized committees, namely the Archives, Media, Technic, Montage and the Scenario Committees.

Ten films within their outline

After it has reorganized its affairs and committees, it has begun to work effectively to produce cinematic works whose subjects were derived from the reality of the Kurdish people in general and the reality of the resistance of Afrin in particular.

One of its works is about Afrin's resistance during 58 days, where the film will be depicted in al-Shahba canton with the help of actors from a theater band. Avrin Cinema Commune's plans include a series of film works related to the violations and practices of the Turkish occupation army in Afrin; the burning of nature and the abduction of the inhabitants as well as other topics such as the resistance of Afrin residents in the camps and the hope of the returning to their homes.

In this context, the co-chair of Avrin Cinema Commune, Brivan Dodekh, said that their main aim is to monitor the fact of the Resistance of the Age that took place in Afrin and continue to follow its second phase in al-Shahba canton.
