US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said she told Congress that we had not been able to confirm Russia's compliance with the requirements under US law on "Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Abandonment of Their Military Use" issued in 1991, according to Russia Today.

It added "We intend to proceed with the steps in accordance with the law, which provides additional sanctions."

The United States imposed sanctions on Russia in August over the case of the poisoning of former intelligence agent and double agent Sergey Skripal on British territory last March, and threatened to expand in the event of "non-compliance" with US demands within 90 days.

It must be noted that the second package of US sanctions is expected to include a reduction in the level of diplomatic relations with Moscow and the ban on the export of US goods to Russia, except for foodstuffs and the prohibition of US imports of Russian goods, including oil and its derivatives, as well as prevent planes belonging to Russian government companies to land in United State.
