Less than a year after the entry into force of the Income Tax Law in al-Jazeera region areas, Dêrik people showed a high sense of responsibility for the law through the turnout to pay tax dues. While the directorates of Finance work in accordance with accurate electronic systems that facilitate the procedures of tax collection.

The Income Tax Law No 18 of 2016 in the Democratic Autonomous Administration in al-Jazeera is a monetary obligation to be met by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Finance Body in accordance with the final rules imposed on the real payers with the aim of achieving social justice and raising the economic level of individuals, society and public services in terms of health and education.

In mid-2017, work began on the preparation of the database and the distribution of forms to the taxpayers, which include full information about their economic activity. The law came into effect from the beginning of 2018 through the financial directorates established in al-Jazeera region areas.

Hawar news agency surveyed the work situation in Dêrik area's Finance Directorate and the tax collection mechanism.

Accurate electronic system for tax collection

Dêrik area has four districts, namely Dêrik and Girkê Legê, Tal Koçer and Çilaxa. The Finance Directorate is located in Dêrik city's center. The Directorate includes several sections, including Audit and Collection Department, Reception, Divan and Archives, Taxation Committee, Tax Inquiry, Banking, Informatics and Revenue.


The Estimating Department is also related to the directorate and is responsible for estimating the value of the income tax under the approved law. The members of this Department conduct field tours in the market, laboratories and companies to assess the value of tax paid by the companies and laboratories according to the law stipulated by the Finance Body.

The Audit Department also works on issuing the proofs and full information about those who pay their taxes; employees, factories and companies through the name, the tax and the amount correspondence. The taxpayer is then referred to the Collection Department where the taxpayer is given a document confirming the payment of his tax.

The co-chair of Dêrik Finance Directorate Amidi Khalaf's confirmed that the citizens are obliged to pay the tax due as dozens of citizens come daily to pay their tax dues, stressing that these taxes are invested for the interest of the country and the advancement of the service reality.

Amidi Khalaf stressed that the tax value does not constitute a major burden on the parents as nine tax categories have been set to start at 1,000 pounds, and may reach one million pounds for factories and companies.

As for the exempted from the tax, Amidi Khalaf said, "Charities, places of worship, mosques, churches, international organizations, public hospitals and people with special needs are exempted from income tax.

Khalil Hamad al-Sajer from Girkê Legê came to the Directorate building to pay his tax, and he praised the facilities provided by the departments of the Directorate and the staff of the taxpayers.
