De Mistura in an upcoming visit to Damascus

Sources close to the UN envoy to Syria Stephane de Mistura announced on Wednesday an upcoming visit to Damascus on October 24 to discuss the Syrian Constitutional Commission.

Al-Watan Syrian Newspaper quoted from sources as saying that the UN envoy to Syria Stephane de Mistura would visit Damascus next Wednesday to discuss the latest developments regarding the formation of the Constitutional Committee.

The UN envoy to Syria Stephane de Mistura will provide information on the formation of the Syrian Constitutional Commission in the context of the Security Council’s open session about Syria on Wednesday.

It was agreed to form a Constitutional Committee of representatives of the Syrian regime and the opposition to reform the constitution in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution 2254 during Sochi Conference on 30 last January.

Last July, de Mistura announced that he would work to form the Constitutional Committee before the end of last September, but there were differences between the parties.
