To meet people's needs … municipality establishes bakery

Tawfiq bakery, located in the eastern part of al-Sheikh Maksoud neighborhood, was established since more than twenty years ago and was known in the neighborhood for the good quality of its bread. However, after the outbreak of the Syrian crisis and the siege imposed on al-Sheikh Maksoud neighborhood, the bakery stopped working.

After the activation of al-Andalus furnace in the western section of al-Sheikh Maksoud neighborhood, the people's municipality reopened Tawfiq bakery, as a result of the need, especially after the return of the people to the neighborhood.

According to officials, the municipality repaired the breakdown in the bakery, and bought pieces of two million and 700 thousand SP.

Bakery working mechanism

Six workers work from 6 am to 12 pm, while the municipality provides flour and diesel.

According to officials, the bakery consumes two tons of flour a day, except for Friday, where it consumes three tons as a result of increased demand for bread, and the bread is distributed on Friday free of charge to the people.

For his part, supervisor at the bakery Tawfiq, Haider Wahid, said that with excessive pressure on the bakery of Salah al-Din because of the increase in population density, the municipality demanded the needs of the people and reopened Tawfiq bakery.

Wahid pointed out that the step taken by the municipality serves the interest of the people, as it is easy to get bread.

"We have been working in the bakery for nine days, for six hours a day, making great efforts to meet the needs of the people of bread," one of the  workers at the bakery said.
