The central committees to organize protests in al-Basra, southern Iraq, called for today's demonstrations under the title of "Friday of the Strategic Demands."

Al-Basra is prepare to resume Friday's demonstrations calling for better living conditions under the title "Friday of Strategic Demands", while trade unions have announced their support for the protests.

The central committees to organize protests in al-Basra called on the people of the province to come out with peaceful demonstrations until their demands are met.

The central committees said in a statement that the demonstrations, "Friday of Strategic Demands" will ask the Iraqi government to activate the construction of Faw port, the establishment of a dam in the territorial waters of the country, and the operation of factories suspended from work.

The statement also stressed the keep of the basic demands which sparked protests this month, most notably the improvement of key services such as water and electricity and job creation for the unemployed.
