Violent protests in Iraqi streets

Thousands of Iraqis took part in two demonstrations in Diyala and Thi Qar provinces in eastern and southern Baghdad for the second week in a row amid a violent protest movement resulted in dead and wounded.

While some of the provinces have seen the burning of the offices of a number of parties, notably Badr offices and Dawa Party and the stream of wisdom, in Basra province.

A local source told the BBC that the demonstrators burned on Sunday night a painting entitled "Imam Khomeini Street" and his picture in the neighborhood of Zahra in al-Hakimiya in the center of Basra city.

The tension in the demonstrations in Basra against unemployment and the lack of public services, especially electricity, after the killing of a demonstrator on July 8, during the firing during the dispersal of the demonstration, and spread to other southern provinces, including Najaf, Maysan, Karbala, Thi Qar and al-Muthana.

The wave of protest comes as Iraq awaits the end of the process of recounting the proportional hand vote of the legislative elections in the country on  May12, on the back ground of suspicions of fraud.
