Qamişlo nursing home embrace old women

Since its establishment, the Women Body has paid attention to women's issues in all aspects; social, economic, cultural and legal. It is setting strategic and developmental plans and setting up projects that are specialized to women and defend their rights. One of the most prominent projects provided by the body is the nursing house.

The nursing house was opened on March 7, 2016 as the first step of its kind in the area and North Syria.

The hospice that is located in al-Gharbi neighborhood in Qamişlo city, and which was named on behalf of the Martyr Vian includes 4 elderly women. The Women Body aims to take care of the old women who have remained alone without a breadwinner and shelter due to social conditions, and the psychological, physical and financial problems, and to protect them from the wilderness and loneliness, in addition to providing them with social and health services and a sense safety in the old age.

The body has set some conditions for the reception of the elderly women among them is that the age of the women must be 55 years and above, the elderly women do not have a sustainer, their feeling of loneliness, and the social and medical disclosure must prove their need to care in case there is no one to take care of them or provide them with health services, and the voidness from all infectious diseases.

Four women pay attention to the older women in the home, in addition to the supervision of specialist doctors to provide services and medical disclosure to the elderly women. The doctors alternate periodically, and integrate the health care with the psychological care within a comprehensive evaluative program.

The diseases which the elderly women suffer and which are now under treatment are Alzheimer's, diabetes, blood pressure, osteoporosis, depression, heart disease, and impaired motor function.

Since its opening for about two years, the center has received 12 elderly women, but four women died because of the complications of diseases and aging, while 4 elderly women have returned to their families after communicating with them and four women remained at the nursing home.

One of these women is the mother Amira Sido who is at 55, and who spends most of her time in the house of the elderly knitting wool and spinning to make bedspreads. Disease, loneliness and old age did not prevent her from practicing her hobby and showing her talent. She did not stand idly by, rather, her will was stronger than the disease she is suffering from which is diabetes and lack of perfusion.

The supervisor in the nursing house Suad Mostafa said, "It was the duty of Women Body to open a private home for older women. This is considered a humanitarian and social duty towards the women who have brought up the community."

Suad Mostafa called on all people to pay attention to the old women and take care of them, and to refrain from the acts that are disgraced, shameful and abusive to the social customs and ethics and culture of society.
