Al-Raqqa schools is preparing to receive large numbers of students

All primary, preparatory and schools, institutes and universities in in al-Raqqa city have been closed during domination of Islamic State's gangs, creating state of illiteracy in the city and denied the students access to education.

After liberating al-Raqqa city by virtue of Syrian Democratic Forces fighters, the Education and Pedagogy Committee was formed within al-Raqqa Civil Council to supervise the educational sector, where the committee took serious steps to activate the educational sector.

The Education and Pedagogy Committee started opening the schools and process of education in al-Raqqa city, the first step was training the teachers and coordination with the organizations in al-Raqqa city to remove the mines from the schools and support the schools through securing basic necessities as windows and boards after all institutions were looted during domination of Islamic State 's gangs on al-Raqqa city .

232 schools were activated in al-Raqqa city and its rural with 2,664 teachers, 70,000 students out of 125,000 according to the statistics conducted by the Education and Pedagogy Committee at the end of the school year.

These schools are distributed according to city’s geography and according to the educational offices, al Karama office covers the eastern area of the city of al-Kalata and al-Hazima covers the northern region. Al-Qahtaniya area covers the western region, in addition to the city office, which was activated recently after liberating the city from grip of Islamic State's gangs.

23 schools were activated in al-Raqqa city out of 65 by the Education and Pedagogy Committee, 28 were partially destroyed and 5 completely destroyed, and all schools have been completely mined.

With the help of engineering teams of the Internal Security Forces in the city of al-Raqqa, mines were removed from 25 schools, in addition to the renting 6 houses in al-Dariya and al-Jazra, because there schools were completely destroyed during the fighting.

The number of teachers who are registered in summer centers was 4000 teachers.

Teachers are also undergo the intellectual courses initiated by the Education and Local Councils, which will last for 20 days.

Hawar news agency (ANHA) interviewed with the Co-chair of the Educational complex in al-Raqqa city Ali al-Shanan on the sector of education and development and the difficulties they face, he said, "The educational situation in al-Raqqa city has improved somewhat. During the current academic year, a large number of students will be received.

On the future plans, the Co-chair of the educational complex in al-Raqqa city Ali al- Shanan pointed out that they have future plans for the restoration of all schools that are the backbone of education. "The existing possibilities and in coordination with al-Raqqa Civil Council and Syria Democratic Council (SDC) will cover all schools and achieve serious steps in the education sector in the city and its countryside in the new school year."
