National Front against Occupation demanded UN to end Turkish occupation of Iraq

The National Front against the Occupation submitted a petition to UNAMI through its office in al-Suleimaniyah city in Başûr (South Kurdistan), in which the United Nations called for working to end the Turkish occupation of the Iraqi territories and Başûr Kurdistan.

Representatives of the Front visited the office of the United Nations Mission and met the officials of the office, and during the meeting, they submitted a written petition to the representative of the United Nations Mission.

The National Front against the Occupation organized a press conference in the UN Mission's office to reveal the content of the petition. The Front said that they demanded the United Nations to fulfill its responsibilities towards the Turkish occupation of Kurdistan and Iraq’s territories.

The petition also referred to the presence of Turkish military bases in Başûr Kurdistan, "The military bases in Başûr Kurdistan pose a great threat to the area. The Turkish state must respect the sovereignty of Iraq."

An appeal to the Security Council

In the final paragraph of the petition, the National Front against the Occupation calls on the United Nations’ Security Council to hold a special meeting on the presence of foreign forces, especially the Turkish forces in Iraq, and to put pressure on the central government in Iraq to comply with its responsibilities on the matter.

For his part, the representative of the United Nations Mission in Iraq assured to deliver the petition to the concerned parties.
