Al-Hisha market, source of livelihood for poor families

The popular market of al-Hisha located in the eastern countryside of Ain Issa district belonging to Girê Sipî/Tel-Abyed in al-Sharqiya neighborhood to al-Hisha town, the market shortens distances for people to buy their needs from Girê sipî district and Ain Issa and other markets. The nearest market is 25 km away from the residents.

The popular market of al-Hisha town witnesses an intensive of the people in al-Hisha town and dozens of villages surrounding, and the market is held every Sunday day of each week.

It is distinguished for lower prices of goods sold in comparison to shops, because the goods that are available in the market are brought by traders from Manbij city and other cities and sold to the people by the owners of stalls who are in the poor class and need the profits they earn on a daily basis to spend on their families, but they now are they relying on getting simple profits versus an active selling and purchase move.

The market includes all the food, vegetables, household items, agricultural equipment and other goods needed by the residents.

Most of al-Hisha town's people went to trade in the popular mobile markets in Girê Sipî canton's cities and villages, due to interruption of agriculture that was adopted by the parents as a source of livelihood. Agriculture stopped two years ago because the water pump of Tel-al-Saman that feeds the town and surrounding villages with irrigation water has stopped.

Hawar news agency (ANHA) interviewed with the seller Ahmed Abu Zahra and said, “This stall is the only source of livelihood for many a family after the cessation of agriculture in the town for more than two years."

He pointed out that the market witnessed an intensive turnout of people and that the market is held for a limited period of time does not exceed 5 hours a day, where people buy their needs before the temperature rises during the day.

Mahmoud Ayyadah, a displaced person from Deir –ez-Zor and a resident  in the town, said that the prices are witnessing a severe decline in the market compared to shops, since most sellers of  stalls from the poor class and need a source of daily income, as well as the people of the town and take into account the situation of those who visit the market because they are children of one region with one similar financial status.”
