Ain Issa's agricultural season deteriorating, if not resolved

In conjunction with the start of the barley crop harvest season in al-Ali Bajlia town in Ain Issa district of Girê Sipî canton, the farmers are suffering from the bad agricultural roads to enter the combines to their lands.

The farmers of al-Ali Bajlia town which is located on al-Balikh River to irrigate their agricultural crops, and as a result of the flooding of the river and the heavy rains that have fallen over the area during the past week, crops have been severely damaged.

The agricultural roads between the fields are important and need maintenance at the beginning of each season to facilitate the passage of farmers and peasants, and to transfer of seeds and fertilizers to it, as well as the easy transfer of agricultural crop to marketing areas.

The agricultural roads' rehabilitation is the farmers’ concern in the fields of the agricultural town because of the damage caused by the inability of farmers to maintain agricultural roads damaged by water leaking from the fields, on the one hand, and the submerging of al-Balikh River for the agricultural roads, especially in spring months, on the other hand.

These problems lead to differences between the farmers themselves due to the lack of a drainage network to al- Belikh River.

Some farmers have to travel up to 2 kilometers to reach their land carrying fertilizer bags and pesticides to spray their fields, as there are no roads to cross cars or agricultural machineries.

This problem threatens hundreds of agricultural hectares of damage if there is no solution to this problem, which needs funds that are difficult for the farmer to adopt alone without a supporting hand.

The farmer Abdul Ghani al-Habash from al-Doganiyah village in al-Ali Bajlia town, talked about this problem, saying that "the rains that fallen over the area caused great damage to agricultural crops, as well as the flood of al-Balikh River have led to the flooding of many lands and thus the season and land were corrupted, while the lands which are not damaged, are also threatened by damage because of the lack of access to the crops to harvest them.

Farmer Hussein Muhammed al-Hassan has pointed out that agricultural roads lack pipes that drain water from the roads, the roads are still wet and difficult to pass by the agricultural machineries. The pipes are considered a main aid to ensure that the water does not reach the roads.

"We have applied to Girê Sipî canton's Agriculture Body to find a solution to this problem, but no response has been presented yet," said a member of the Agriculture Committee in al-Ali Bajlia town, Hilal Abdul Qadir.

Farmers have appealed to the Agriculture Body in the canton to find emergency solutions for them as the harvest season enters.
