YRA recommends that journalists be voice of people to achieve freedom, justice ,democracy

On Monday, the Free Media Union published a statement on its official website on the occasion of Kurdish Press Day, which stated: “126 years ago, that is, on the twenty-second of April 1898, Miqdad Medhat Badrakhan issued the first Kurdish newspaper, “Kurdistan,” in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and with the beginning of the work of the newspaper was the first step in the path of modern Kurdish journalism, and this step was met with attacks by the enemies of the Kurdish people.

Despite the attempts aimed at stopping the “Kurdistan” newspaper at that time through successive interventions and attacks on it, and despite all the circumstances, the Kurdish people took the establishment of the Kurdistan newspaper as corner stone for establishing and developing media activity.

Despite the difficult circumstances, the Kurdish people throughout Kurdistan were able to develop written, audio and then visual media. With the start of the freedom movement, the doors were opened to the development of free media and it was the basis for the development of the struggle for freedom. As a result, dozens of media institutions were launched to spread the concepts of freedom and democracy.

The Kurdish parties and movements in other parts of Kurdistan also made tireless attempts to develop their media activity, as they also took the Kurdistan newspaper as their starting point.

We noticed with the development of technology and the start of the first Kurdish satellite station (Med TV), which was the most prominent step that enabled the Kurdish people to create a strong media defense against special war attacks led by the enemies of the Kurdish people.

We also point out that the results of the revolution in northern and eastern Syria were good for the people of the region in general and the media in particular, as today we have a good media platform. We also praise the victory of the peoples’ brotherhood system in the region despite all the attacks and plans, and this was all thanks to the struggle of the media. Free and transparent.

On this glorious day, we remember our media comrades and colleagues who sacrificed their lives for the truth and thanks to whom we were able to obtain a strong foundation in the media for the struggle for freedom and democracy.

  Today we note that more than 100 foreign, regional and local media organizations in our regions have been allowed to work for the truth, and all of this is due to the struggle of the media and fellow journalists who carried the cause of justice and freedom upon themselves.

For this reason, we will continue to remember our fellow martyred journalists with respect and reverence because they are among the first to sacrifice themselves for freedom and the dissemination of right and truth.

From this standpoint, we recommend to all our journalist friends, regardless of the institution in which they work, to fight for their hopes and dreams of being the voice of the people to achieve freedom, justice and democracy for them.

On this occasion, Kurdish Press Day, we hope that this will be a new step towards a more advanced professional media and that we will live up to the trust left in us by our martyred comrades.”
