In an interview with the Women’s Protection Units’ website, YPJ spokesperson Roxan Mohammed said women had demonstrated their ability to bring about positive change through their struggle and political, social, organisational and military participation. She noted that the experience of women in Rojava had established their essential role in building a peaceful and stable society that respects diversity.

Mohammed explained that attacks on women’s values, existence and will reflect a mindset seeking to weaken society and fracture ties among peoples. She stressed that such practices were not coincidental but carried messages threatening social cohesion, security and stability.

She emphasised that targeting Kurdish women, their sacrifices and their status threatens coexistence among the peoples of the region and opens the door to further tensions and division.

She affirmed that recognising women’s existence, identity and will is a fundamental condition for any serious path towards democratic change in Syria. She called for respect for the rights of all communities and guarantees of their political and social participation without exclusion or discrimination.

She called for those responsible for the attacks and acts of vandalism to be held accountable and denied impunity, urging serious measures to protect civil peace and prevent discord.

She concluded by reaffirming that women would continue their struggle, stressing that their sacrifices gave them the right to defend their identity, rights and status, protect their achievements, and work to strengthen security, stability and coexistence in Syrian society.
