YPJ reveal details of meeting with interim Defense Ministry

The YPJ announced today, Thursday, details of a meeting that brought together a delegation from the YPJ leadership with the Defense Minister in the Syrian interim government, Murhaf Abu Qasra, in the capital, Damascus, yesterday.

The YPJ explained in a statement published on their official website that the meeting came at their request, with the aim of discussing mechanisms for integrating their forces into the Ministry of Defense and the structure of the Syrian army, as part of completing the implementation of the January 29 agreement signed with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The delegation included commanders Rohlat Afrin and Suzdar Haji, in addition to the commander of the Women’s Battalion in the Qamishlo Brigade, Khalisa Ayed, and the head of the media office, Roken Jamal.

The statement indicated that the meeting addressed the organizational and legal aspects related to the integration process, in addition to discussing the role of women in the new Syrian army. According to the statement, the Defense Minister expressed flexibility and readiness to continue dialogue on practical formulas that would allow women’s participation in the military institution.

The delegation stated that this meeting comes after a series of meetings conducted by their leadership at both the local and international levels to discuss the future of women’s participation in security and military institutions.

The statement concluded by affirming that the delegation called during the meeting for the release of male and female fighters detained by the interim government.
