YPG: Kobani resistance upholds freedom, equality, coexistence

Today, the YPG’s General Command issued a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Kobani, which stated:

“Today, we commemorate the International Day of Kobani, a day embodying resilience, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of freedom. A decade after the historic resistance that sparked hope around the world, we remain committed to the values that made Kobani a global symbol of courage and human dignity.

The Kobani resistance was not simply a battle against ISIS; it was a deep stance for humanity, a choice of hope over despair, and a defense of the principles of freedom, equality, and coexistence. Our brave fighters, both women and men, who stood side by side demonstrated that resistance is not just about military victory, but also about defending human dignity.

Today, the threats to our revolution remain on the geopolitical stage. Occupying forces and their allies are trying to undermine the democratic autonomous administration model we have built. However, we remain steadfast in our commitment to peaceful resistance, building inclusive institutions, and honoring those who sacrificed to achieve these gains. We assure the international community: Kobani was neither an isolated event nor the end of the struggle. The resistance born there continues. The threats facing our community and our revolution are as critical now as they were ten years ago. Although ISIS has been defeated on the ground, its ideology remains a serious threat. Certain regional powers, particularly the occupying Turkish state, continue to covertly support ISIS and extremist groups with the aim of destroying our revolution and our model of autonomous administration. The silence of the international community only strengthens those who seek to revive this dark ideology.

We will honor our martyrs not only with words, but with actions. By strengthening our social foundations, educating our youth, defending our lands, and resisting the violence and oppression of the Turkish state, ISIS, and their allies, we carry forward the revolution’s message toward an alternative future. On this day, we renew our commitment to the path of resistance, to protecting our revolution, and to upholding the principles that inspire us toward democratic autonomous administration. We congratulate our people, all the region’s communities, and freedom-lovers worldwide on the International Day of Kobani.”
