The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported the discovery of the young engineer’s body in Al-Sisniya, Tartous countryside, showing severe signs of violence. Information indicates she was strangled after her neck was broken.

The SOHR called on “the relevant authorities to urgently act to identify the perpetrator or perpetrators and bring them to justice,” warning of a rising wave of violence and organized crimes that are deeply affecting Syrian society without any strategy to manage the areas.

Activists from Tartous circulated on social media information identifying the engineer as Rawan Matanius Saloum, 25 years old, from the Christian faith.

The crime sparked a wave of fear and anxiety, especially among Christians, amid the rising number of crimes, increasing weapon proliferation, chaos, and impunity.
