YBŞ vows to continue defending Yazidi dignity

On the eighth anniversary of the 2017 attack, the Shingal Resistance Units renewed their pledge to persist in their struggle, remembering the martyrs of the Turkish aggression that targeted the Shingal areas at a time when the units were fighting on the frontlines against ISIS mercenaries.

Today, the Media Center of the Shingal Resistance Units issued a statement commemorating the martyrs of the attack launched by the Turkish occupation on Shingal on April 25th, stating:

"On this day, April 25, 2017, Shingal/Sinjar was subjected to a brutal aggression by the Turkish occupation, as Turkish warplanes launched a series of air raids on our areas while we were bravely fighting ISIS mercenaries on the battlefronts. This intense aerial bombardment was not just an assault on our military positions but an attempt to crush our will in the face of occupation and terrorism.

These attacks marked the first violation of Iraq’s sovereignty in Sinjar by Turkey, a violation that the Iraqi government at the time largely ignored, allowing the enemy to persist in its crimes against our people. The absence of a firm stance from the Iraqi state opened the door for continued Turkish bombardments, repeatedly endangering the lives of Iraqi civilians and Yazidi resistance fighters, in an ongoing effort to destabilize the region and spread fear among our people.

Today, as we remember the martyrdom of our young comrade Kingo, who earned the honor of martyrdom for his homeland and people, we reaffirm that the blood of the martyrs will fuel our continued struggle against anyone who seeks to occupy our land or threaten our security. We do not forget the sacrifices made by our comrade and remain steadfast in our principles of resisting the occupiers.

Through this statement, we affirm that any aggression against our land and sovereignty will not go unpunished. We, in the Shingal Resistance Units, will continue our struggle and resistance. We will stand against any aggressor and will never allow the dignity of our people or our sovereignty to be threatened."
