World Union Organization for Arabic Press condemns Turkish aggressions on Syria

The World Union Organization for Arabic Press issued a statement to the public regarding the Turkish aggressions on Syrian lands, which read:

“We, at the World Union Organization for Arabic Press in cooperation with our partners at the Free Media Union in Syria, strongly condemn and denounce the continuous aggressions against the Syrian people in all their components, including Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs, Assyrians, Armenians, Circassians, and other ethnic and religious groups. We wish all the injured a swift recovery.

We also strongly condemn the Turkish aggressions targeting the sovereignty of Syrian territories and the dignity of its citizens. We reaffirm the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of nations, as enshrined in international charters, particularly the United Nations Charter and relevant international resolutions.

We point to international resolutions that criminalize the use of force against state sovereignty, including:

-Resolution 2625 issued in October 1970 on the Principles of International Law Concerning Friendly Relations.

-Resolution 2734 issued in December 1970 on the Strengthening of International Security.

-Resolution 3314 of 1974 defining aggression, which considers any use of armed force against the sovereignty of another state as aggression.

-Resolution 39/103 issued in December 1981 on the inadmissibility of interference in the internal affairs of states.

We consider the ongoing Turkish aggression against Syrian territories a crime against humanity that necessitates accountability and punishment for the perpetrators, whoever they may be. We also call on the international community to assume its responsibilities regarding the violations and massacres being inflicted on the Syrian people and to work on holding the perpetrators accountable.

We appeal to the United Nations Human Rights Council to play its historic role in confronting this ongoing humanitarian catastrophe. We also call upon all international and regional organizations and human rights bodies to assume their responsibilities in ending this aggression, which threatens peace and security across Syria.

Furthermore, we urge the international community to take serious and swift measures to stop the Turkish aggression, which constitutes a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty, hinders political solutions, and undermines efforts to combat terrorism in Syria. Based on international law and the United Nations Charter, we demand the following:

1. Recognizing Turkish bombing of Syrian territories as an unlawful act contrary to the principles of the United Nations and international law.

2. The immediate withdrawal of Turkish forces from Afrin, Idlib, and all occupied Syrian territories.

Amid the regional and international complexities affecting the Syrian crisis, we emphasize that Syrian-Syrian dialogue is the only path to a peaceful political solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people.

Finally, we call on all media institutions and human rights organizations to condemn all forms of violence against civilians, work on documenting the committed crimes, and amplify the voices of victims to the international community."
