Mother loses contact with family amid forced displacement Journey

Nesrin Hussein, who was forcibly displaced from the Shahba region, lost contact with her husband and three children while traveling from Shehba to Tabqa Canton.

A few days ago, convoys of forcibly displaced individuals began moving from Afrin and Shahba Canton towards Tabqa and Raqqa Cantons. The Autonomous Administration reported that more than 100,000 people have arrived so far.

Nesrin, who was shedding tears over her family’s plight, said, “I was living with my family of eight in Sardam Camp in Shahba after we were displaced from Afrin in 2018.”

With tear-filled eyes, Nesrin explained, “I set out with my three older children on foot from Shahba on our second displacement journey. My husband was riding his motorcycle, carrying our three younger children. When we approached one of the checkpoints near Aleppo, my husband told me he would go ahead to check the situation, but he disappeared along with the children.”

She continued her story anxiously: “My three older children and I stayed on the road with the convoys of displaced people until we reached Tabqa city, but my husband and other children remain missing. I have searched for them extensively but have not been able to find them.”

Nesrin described the hardships of the long journey, saying: “We suffered immense pain from the cold, hunger, and intense fear along the way.”

She prayed fervently, asking God to reunite her with her husband and children safely.

On January 20, 2018, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries launched a massive attack on Afrin Canton, which ended on March 18 with the occupation of the city and its countryside. During this attack, the Turkish occupation forced the inhabitants of the canton to leave their homes, with many displaced persons seeking refuge in the Shahba regions, Tal Rifaat, and its surroundings, hoping to one day return to their homes.

Today, more than six years after the first displacement journey, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries are launching a new offensive, this time targeting the Shahba regions and the remaining villages of Afrin. This escalation has driven the forcibly displaced people to experience a second displacement, heading towards the relatively safer Tabqa Canton.
