Astronomical and global communities are anticipating a rare celestial event on February 17, 2026; an annular solar eclipse. The eclipse will occur when the moon covers most of the sun's disk, leaving a bright ring known as the "ring of fire," lasting for only two minutes and 20 seconds.

According to astronomical data, the path of the phenomenon will pass across Antarctica, measuring 616 kilometers wide and 4,282 kilometers long, with full visibility beginning from the Davis Sea coast between 11:42 and 12:41 UTC.

The full annular eclipse will be visible only to research stations and a limited number of visitors in Antarctica, while residents of southeast Africa, southern South America, and parts of the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and South American oceans will be able to keep up with the partial eclipse.

This event is part of a series of prominent annular eclipses over the coming years, among them those expected on,

February 6, 2027 (South America and Africa).

January 26, 2028 (Ecuador, Brazil, Morocco, Spain).

June 1, 2030 (North Africa, Europe, Asia).

May 21, 2031 (Angola, India, Southeast Asia)

The February 2026 eclipse is considered one of the most prominent astronomical phenomena of the current decade, offering an exceptionally rare spectacle that will not be repeated often.
