Women’s Call: Let Us Unite

 Speaking to ANHA agency, Nergis Mohammed provided insights into the inaugural Kurdish Women’s Conference in Rojava, which was held in Qamishlo on March 23 and attended by 300 delegates. She highlighted that the conference took place at a pivotal moment in history, underscoring its importance in addressing the threats facing the Kurdish people.

 She stated: “Through this conference, we seek to lead the upcoming National Unity Conference planned in Rojava. The Kurdish Women’s Conference serves as a powerful response in support of national unity.”

 Nergis Mohammed also pointed to both the historical opportunities and the challenges that women face amid the region’s ongoing transformations. She stated: “The changes in the region present historical opportunities, but they also necessitate a serious and comprehensive struggle, especially for women, in the face of emerging threats.”

 “We Must Unite Against the Constitutional Declaration”

 She further elaborated on the key issues that need resolution, particularly the reconstruction of Syria and the role and status of women. She warned that the constitutional declaration proposed by the Damascus authorities poses a significant threat to resolving the Kurdish issue and to recognizing women’s rights.

 “This proposed constitution denies the Kurdish question altogether. Therefore, we call on all women to stand united in opposition to Damascus’ constitutional declaration,” Mohammed added.

 Affirming their stance, she asserted: “We will not adhere to any constitution that disregards women’s existence, will, and contributions. As Kurdish women, we have reached this stage through immense sacrifices. Today, we are capable of convening a Kurdish Women’s Conference, and we will never accept the constitutional draft proposed by Damascus. This conference has brought together Kurdish women in a spirit of unity, and through this spirit, women will lead the path to Kurdish national unity. Our aim is to resolve the Kurdish question and all women’s issues through a comprehensive constitution.”

 She also highlighted that their conference serves as a strong response to the massacres occurring in Syria’s coastal cities, emphasizing the need to strengthen women’s solidarity.

 “We Seek to Hold the Third National Women’s Conference in Qamishlo”

 Nergis Mohammed stressed that reinforcing the spirit of unity and solidarity among women will ultimately strengthen national unity across Kurdistan. She stated: “As members of the Kurdish Women’s Conference, held for the first time in Rojava under the auspices of ANHA, we call upon all four parts of Kurdistan to convene a National Women’s Conference. We aim to hold the third National Women’s Conference in Qamishlo, as such a conference will help eliminate the threats facing both women and the Kurdish nation while providing a solution to the Kurdish issue.”

 She extended an invitation to women from other political parties that did not participate in the conference, saying: “No woman should feel alienated from the spirit of Kurdish women’s unity. On this basis, I call upon all women to unite. We also invite the women from parties that did not participate in this conference to join future gatherings.”

 “We Will Struggle for a Free and Democratic Syria”

 Nergis Mohammed concluded by affirming that the conference was a powerful response to the call of leader Abdullah Ocalan for peace and a democratic society.

 She declared: “Kurdish women will take the lead in realizing this vision. We will struggle for a free and democratic Syria—one that acknowledges women’s rights, empowers women to play an active role in society, and fosters a democratic nation where all people can live in harmony."
