The Women's Coordination in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria issued a statement to the public on April 4, marking the 12th anniversary of the establishment of the Women's Protection Units. The statement reads:

"On this historic day, April 4th, marks the 12th anniversary of the establishment of the Women's Protection Units, which were founded in 2013. Their journey began with forming a women's identity, striving to achieve their freedom, safeguard their dignity, and gain their legitimate rights to ensure their presence in leading the revolution that bears their name. Through this, they made many great sacrifices and took on a pioneering role to prove their worth and strength in defeating the groups of extremist dark ideologies, particularly the biggest terrorist organization in the world, ISIS, to become a symbol of the Women's Revolution struggle in North and East Syria, an icon of peace, and a role model for resistance, sacrifice, and dedication, not only in Syria but around the world.

The heroic resistance exhibited by the Women's Protection Units on all battlefronts, from their founding until today, was to defend women and protect themselves from the policies of authoritarian regimes, denial, and extermination against them. In doing so, they managed to achieve significant accomplishments in the field of protection, security, and fundamental defense.

On this occasion, we, in the Women's Coordination of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, commemorate the souls of the martyrs of freedom and all the fighters of the Women's Protection Units who continue to struggle for the realization of the aspirations and dreams of Syrian women from all their spectra and components in justice, freedom, and peace, with these great victories. They remain the hoped-for hope and the fundamental, legitimate, and deterrent force in thwarting all hostile plans, violations, and war crimes against women. In doing so, we highly appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of the Women's Protection Units, which played a pioneering role in protecting the region from ISIS mercenaries and the Turkish occupation state.

At the same time, we consider the establishment of the Women's Protection Units a tremendous achievement and a historic step in the struggle for women's freedom through uniting their energies and organizing them at all intellectual, military, and political levels, to protect and ensure the safety of all women in Syria, and against all forms of violence, occupation, and extermination. This also ensures the preservation of the accomplishments and achievements they have made during the stages of the Syrian revolution. We reaffirm our full support and endorsement of the Women's Protection Units in their struggle and resistance to be the cornerstone in building a free society and character. Together, we will achieve a democratic society based on the philosophy of "Woman, Life, Freedom" and bring peace and values of coexistence based on justice and equality in the future Syria.

In this pivotal stage, all women must intensify otheir struggle to ensure and achieve the unified strength of women, lead a new era of relentless struggle, and enhance the core protection to ensure the protection of democratic society. They must organize themselves on the fundamental principles of the democratic nation in protecting the homeland and land and succeed in the cause of free women, which has become the core issue in the age of the democratic society, which is the era of women's freedom."
