This incident comes amid ongoing security and economic challenges in Syria, which have been accompanied by a noticeable increase in domestic violence and crime rates.

According to statistics from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 185 murder and criminal cases have been documented across various Syrian provinces since the beginning of 2026, resulting in 205 deaths, including 164 men, 13 children, and 28 women.
