Wildfires threaten homes in Wadi al-Nasara, locals call for urgent action

Residents of Wadi al-Nasara in rural Homs, a predominantly Christian region, are living in fear as wildfires continue for the second day, devouring farmland and fields and now nearing residential neighborhoods.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported today that residents of the town of Hab Nemra in Wadi al-Nasara issued a distress call, warning that the flames now threaten their lives and property, with heavy smoke making breathing difficult and causing suffocation among some residents.

The locals called for immediate action by local authorities, especially as the fires are spreading rapidly due to strong winds, stressing the urgent need for aircraft support to extinguish the blaze before it reaches more homes.

They also appealed to all water truck owners to head to the area and assist in putting out the fires.

Meanwhile, new fires have broken out in several parts of Syria, including coastal areas, Hama, and Homs since Sunday, while the transitional government continues to show a sluggish response in helping residents fight the flames.
