Weysi Aktaş released after more than three decades in detention in Turkey

Turkish authorities released Weysi Aktaş after he spent more than three decades in detention, including ten years in the maximum-security Imrali Prison, amid repeated postponements of his release despite the completion of his sentence.

Turkish authorities released Weysi Aktaş after spending more than 31 years in prison, including 10 years in the high-security Imrali Island F Prison.

According to the Mezopotamya News Agency, Aktaş completed his 30-year sentence on April 28, 2024, but the Administration and Monitoring Board decided to postpone his release for a year, followed by an additional three-month postponement.

After a total postponement of one year and three months, Aktaş was released on July 25, 2025, ending more than three decades of detention.
