Water workers hold strike in Raqqa

The city of Raqqa is witnessing a strike by water sector employees, a move that threatens to exacerbate a vital crisis affecting the daily lives of residents, amid calls for urgent solutions to address the problem.

Water company employees in Raqqa, who were employed during the period of the Autonomous Administration, announced on Tuesday that they began an open-ended strike to protest the lack of job security and the delay in receiving their salaries, which have been outstanding for approximately five months, according to ANHA correspondent in the city.

The strike has led to the shutdown of the two main pumping stations, "al-Asadiya" and "Kediran," which are among the city's primary water sources. This situation could exacerbate the suffering of Raqqa residents, who are already experiencing a decline in basic services.

The employees are demanding that the relevant authorities in the Interim Government expedite the regularization of their employment status and the payment of their overdue salaries, warning that the strike will continue if their demands are not met.
