Water level of Jaqjaq River in Hasaka risen

The water level in the Jaqjaq River in the city of Hasaka witnessed a noticeable rise, following the recent rains that fell on the region, which led to the return of water flow in the river channel within the city after years of decline

The Jaqjaq River, which flows through the heart of Hasaka city, witnessed a significant rise in its water level today following a wave of rain that swept across the Jazera region since dawn yesterday, reviving the river's flow after years of drought.

ANHA correspondent observed this morning the water flowing through the river and its remarkably high level, a phenomenon the city hasn't witnessed in years. The river originates in Turkey and enters Syrian territory via the city of Qamishli before turning south to join the Khabur River and eventually flow into the Euphrates River

This rise in water levels comes after years of declining river flow due to reduced water supplies from its northern sources, which in recent times has caused large sections of its course within the city to dry up.

Syria is generally experiencing a strong rainstorm, leading to the formation of puddles in main streets and squares, as well as limited flooding in several other areas, including the southern countryside of Hasaka, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor.
