Washington rules out reviewing troops’ presence in NE Syria

A US official said that Washington has no plans to reconsider the presence of its forces in North and East Syria or in al-Tanf, confirming continued support for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in combating ISIS.

The official stated that his country does not intend, at this time, to review its military presence in North and East Syria or at the al-Tanf base, emphasizing that the priority remains fighting ISIS.

He explained, in remarks carried by American media outlets, that Washington is working to support anti-ISIS efforts through the SDF, noting that the goal is “to prevent the resurgence of the terrorist threat, which still exists in some areas.”

He added that the US is not currently working to establish a coordination center in Syria similar to the joint centers created in other countries in the region, clarifying that US efforts remain focused on field stability and security through local partners.

These statements reaffirm the continuation of US policy to maintain a limited military presence in North and East Syria, in parallel with efforts to contain Iranian and Russian influence and to ensure that extremist organizations do not resurgence.
