Various events affirm women's role in preserving heritage, continuing struggle

As part of the activities organized to mark the International Women's Day in Rojava, the cities of Qamishlo, Amuda, Tirbê Spiyê, Jel Agha, and Derbasiya witnessed various cultural and community activities.

Qamishlo

In this context, a seminar was held on Tuesday in the Qadurbek neighborhood of Qamishlo, addressing the role of women in the Rojava Revolution and the challenges they face, with the attendance of residents of the neighborhood and members of the Kongra Star.

The seminar was moderated by Shervin Delil; the administrator in the Kongra Star in Qamishlo. She began by commemorating the martyrs who sacrificed their lives and highlighting women's historical resistance against patriarchal mentality and their rejection of subjugation.

Delil discussed the struggle of the pioneering martyr Sakine Cansız in the women's freedom movement, quoting from the leader Abdullah Ocalan, "Sakine Cansız is a symbol for all women." She emphasized that thousands of women have been killed and burned, yet fear has not entered their hearts.

She added that today, women have joined ranks and taken up arms against authoritarianism and the hegemonic system.

The seminar concluded with making a colorful braid using the colors of the Kurdish flag, symbolizing unity and social cohesion.

Amuda

In the city of Amuda, the Yadi Aqida Academy, affiliated with the Kongra Star, inaugurated a two-day folklore and handicrafts exhibition as part of a series of activities organized to coincide with the International Women's Day on March 8th.

The exhibition aimed to highlight women's innovation and support them in developing their craft skills, while also preserving traditional industries as an integral part of the region's cultural identity.

The exhibition featured traditional Kurdish clothing embroidered by hand, paintings, artificial flower arrangements, handmade prayer beads, woolen bags, and other woven items reflecting the local heritage.

The exhibition was well-attended by residents of the city, who toured the various sections and admired the displayed items.

Tirbê Spiyê

In the city of Tirbê Spiyê, the Martyrs' Families Council organized a tree-planting event at the Martyr Dilşêr Cemetery in the village of Dikri, affirming their commitment to the martyrs' sacrifices and the continuation of the struggle.

The Yazidi Women's Union in Rojava also organized a dialogue seminar at the Yazidi House north of the city, with the participation of women from various communities.

During the seminar, Union member Gule Jaafar emphasized the importance of developing women's activism and strengthening unity among different communities, stressing the need to continue efforts to ensure women's legal and human rights in a democratic Syria based on the principles of freedom and equality.

Jel Agha

In the city of Jel Agha, members of the Young Women's Union, in cooperation with members of the Kongra Star, visited the mothers of martyrs to offer their congratulations and symbolic gifts on the occasion of the International Women's Day.

The visit included the presentation of flowers and informational brochures about the International Women's Day, in appreciation of the martyrs' sacrifices and in continuation of their struggle.

Three joint delegations of members from the Young Women's Union and the Kongra Star also participated in the events, visiting the towns of Abira and Kishk to present symbolic gifts and congratulate the women, emphasizing the continuation of women's activism and the protection of women's gains in Rojava.

Derbasiya

In the city of Derbasiya, the Kongra Star organized a celebration of the International Women's Day in the village of Jinwar, with the participation of women from all civil institutions and councils.

The celebration included musical performances and folk dances expressing the women's joy on this occasion, while emphasizing their commitment to cultural identity and the active role of women in society.

During the celebration, Shaha Sheikh delivered a speech on behalf of the Kongra Star, noting that March 8th is not merely a celebratory occasion, but a day of struggle symbolizing women's resistance throughout history.

The Kongra Star also visited the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) and the Women's Asayish (Internal Security Forces), where female leaders affirmed that women's resistance has become a symbol of strength and free will, and that protecting society is inseparable from women's struggle for their freedom and dignity, calling for reinforcing women's unity and organization to confront challenges and achieve further gains.
