The Afrin-Syria Human Rights Organization reported today that, in a "new development reflecting the ongoing policy of demographic change in the Afrin region," three families of Uyghur mercenaries were recently settled in homes belonging to forcibly displaced Kurdish citizens. The families are: lawyer Bashir Hajj Yusuf, Farouk Adel, Munir Muhammad, and Farouk Hajj Tubal, all of whom are from the village of Mariska, which is part of the Sharan district.

According to local sources, the village residents demanded that the mercenaries vacate the seized homes, an act that was met with violent retaliation. On Friday, August 29, Uyghur mercenaries opened fire to disperse the residents and instill fear among them, attempting to prevent them from further demanding their rights.

In the same context, sources reported that the Uyghur mercenaries, under the direct supervision of Turkish occupation intelligence, are attempting to settle more of their families in the village of Mariska, following the evacuation of homes previously occupied by settlers from the village of Menagh in northern Aleppo countryside. This move is part of a systematic plan to solidify demographic change in the occupied Afrin countryside.
