Kurdish Leftist Party condemns Transitional Government violations in Sumeriya

The Political Bureau of the Kurdish Leftist Party in Syria issued a statement regarding the violations committed by the transitional government in al-Sumeriya neighborhood of Damascus, stating:

"It appears that the temporary authority in Damascus continues its policies of ethnic and sectarian cleansing, as if the brutal massacres it carried out against the Alawite sect in the coast and the Druze sect in Sweida were not enough, and it has learned nothing from the lessons that have exposed and continue to threaten the unity of the country with grave dangers.

This administration has now begun a wide campaign in the capital, Damascus, specifically in al-Sumeriya neighborhood, which is predominantly inhabited by Alawites. Armed groups affiliated with the transitional administration have entered the area and threatened the Alawite residents with eviction from their homes within a period of no more than 48 hours, without allowing them to take their belongings. They have committed acts of violence, particularly beating women and insulting them with curses and slurs, even though these residents hold legal documentation proving their ownership of the homes.

What the transitional government forces are doing in al-Sumeriya neighborhood, engaging in ethnic and sectarian cleansing, is a blatant violation of both Syrian and international law, as well as human rights. Furthermore, it constitutes discrimination among citizens based on religion, sect, gender, and ethnicity, all of which provide fertile ground for undermining national unity and the integrity of the country, deepening the Syrian crisis.

As the Kurdish Leftist Party in Syria, we condemn these despicable actions, and at the same time, we call on all patriots, progressives, and democrats in Syria, as well as the international community, to denounce these crimes and stand against them.
