U.S. Envoy urges Syria-Israel Peace Talks

During his visit to Damascus, Barrack urged the start of talks between the Syrian authority and Israel, beginning with a "non-aggression agreement" between the two sides.

 The visit coincided with the signing of a $7 billion energy deal involving companies from the United States, Qatar, and Turkey.

 Barrack, who also serves as the U.S. ambassador to Ankara, arrived in Damascus on his first visit since being appointed as the envoy to Syria—a move that followed the announcement of the lifting of economic sanctions.

 Speaking from Damascus, Barrack expressed his belief that "the Israel-Syria issue is solvable and begins with dialogue," proposing the launch of a "non-aggression pact" as a starting point.

 Separately, and in the presence of the U.S. envoy, the Syrian authority signed an agreement today with four international companies from the U.S., Qatar, and Turkey to support the energy sector.

 Syria's Minister of Energy under the Syrian authority, Mohammad Al-Bashir, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with a consortium of leading energy companies, involving investments amounting to $7 billion. He explained that the agreement aims to generate 5,000 megawatts of power.
