The embassy stated that Syria has officially become the 90th member state of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, calling it a “turning point” in the nation’s history and in the global fight against terrorism, following the transitional government’s signing of the accession agreement two days ago.

The embassy stressed that ISIS mercenaries continue to kill Syrians, threaten innocent people, and hinder Syria’s path to recovery, emphasizing that Damascus’ accession will provide “training and security cooperation” aimed at protecting all Syrians from terrorism.

The statement noted that this step is only part of the broader effort to build a secure and stable Syria, adding that the next phase requires full approval by the US Congress to lift the Caesar Act sanctions.

The embassy added that “this announcement is not a victory for a single coalition alone, but a victory for all humanity.”
