In a statement, the directorate explained that the severe fuel crisis has completely hindered the operation of water tankers and the supply of water to “hosting and shelter centers” as well as city neighborhoods.

The directorate stated that since July 13, its administrative and technical staff have been mobilized to secure water as much as possible, despite limited resources and a significant shortage in fuel supplies. It added that during the past period, it continued sending water tankers whenever possible, but operations have recently come to a complete halt due to the depletion of diesel.

The statement noted that the director of the hosting centers, Ashraf Mundher, maintained regular contact with the directorate’s management and was informed of the crisis situation and the difficulty of maintaining daily tanker deliveries. He was last notified on November 1 by the head of the city unit, Engineer Bassam Shannan, that supplying the centers was temporarily impossible until the required fuel becomes available.

The directorate also clarified that it had previously contracted with the church to secure several small water tankers for the shelter centers, but the contract lasted only four days, ending this additional support that had helped meet part of the needs.

The Sweida Water Directorate emphasized that it operates under difficult conditions and ongoing challenges, stressing that overcoming these obstacles requires joint coordination among all concerned parties. It reaffirmed its commitment to providing services to citizens and hosting centers once resources are available and pledged to continue exerting all possible efforts within its limited capacities.

The directorate concluded its statement by expressing surprise at the “repeated defamation campaigns” against it, denying allegations of negligence in its work, and reiterating its clear commitment to serving everyone within the available means.
