Unthinkable devastation on Rmeilan Fields estimated one billion US dollars

13-14 January 2024, Turkish occupation UAVs shelled extensive areas in NE, Syria targeting vital facilities that provide basic services to the citizens, in which the power stations in most districts and cities of Jazira canton and the oil and gas stations in Tirbespiyê, Deirk and Rmeilan being out of service, depriving more than 5 million people of electricity, gas and water.

Democratic Autonomous Administration DAA in Jazira canton worked relentlessly to find alternative ways to alleviate the suffering of the people, such as running water wells on generators and connecting them with tanks, as well as to providing gas at cost…etc.   

The vital role of the facilities that were targeted by Turkish occupation UAVs is to provide basic services to NE, Syria people to generate electricity for mills, hospitals, water wells, as well as 8 villages are located east of Jazire canton, part of Qamishlo city, Derik city and its environs are deprived form the electricity and domestic gas.

Sources confirmed that the damage on stations is estimated 100%, it cannot be rehabilitated unless finding alternative parts from abroad. For example, a 66 kV electricity substation in Swedya had losses amounting to $3.5 million, and a 230 kV power substation amounted to $2.5 million. While the largest losses were when the gas plant and 12 gas turbines were targeted to generate electricity and they were completely out of service, and the percentage of losses has not yet been determined.

For his part, the co-chair of Executive Council of Jazira canton, Talat Younis, said that the Turkish occupation targets deliberately livelihoods of the citizens, infrastructure and service and economic facilities that provide services and basic needs for 5 million people in NE, Syria.

Talat Younis explained: “In light of these targets, the Autonomous Administration sought to mitigate their effects on the lives of citizens, through the pace of work and raising the emergency level in all service institutions by providing water, diesel, and bread, and importing domestic gas and distributing it at cost - until the gas station is rehabilitated.”
