"Turkish fascism by targeting journalists proves how fearful it is of free media"

Today, the Media Council of the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) issued a statement to the public, calling for the Turkish occupation to be held accountable fo its violations against journalists:
"Day after day, the Turkish state is revealing its fascist face and barbaric reality towards the people and components of NE Syria, especially the Kurdish people, by committing massacres, bombing the infrastructure of the region, and continuing to practice forms of abuse against the residents of the occupied areas such as Afrin, Girê Spî (Tal Abyad) and Ras al-Ain (Serê Kaniyê). After failing to occupy the Martyrs' Dam and Qaraqozaq Bridge, which turned into fronts of resistance and broke the will of Turkish fascism against the SDF, its barbarism increased and it is now directly targeting civilians, women and children.
We know that in light of the international silence and the disregard of the crimes of the Turkish state by international powers, the media in NE Syria are the eyes and witnesses to the crimes of Turkish fascism.

Through their cameras and reports, they convey the truth of the propaganda of psychological warfare practiced by the Turkish state, as well as the epics of resistance to the Syrian Democratic Forces and the strong will of the people of NE Syria to respond to aggression and adhere to their achievements.

Therefore, the Turkish fascism is targeting them, in flagrant violation of all international conventions and the laws of war that grant immunity to journalists, media professionals and civilians in armed conflicts, in clear and explicit defiance of the international community and its human rights and humanitarian institutions.
Since the beginning of the battles of the Martyrs' Dam (Tishreen), many journalists martyred by Turkish attacks, as journalists Nazim Dashtan and Jihan Belkin were victims of a Turkish drone strike on the road between Tishreen Dam and the town of Sarrin in the southern countryside of Kobani.
Today, we bid farewell to another martyr, the journalist and media person from the occupied city of Afrin, Agid Roj, who was targeted on 15-2-2025 by the Turkish killing machine in the Resistance Dam (Martyrs' Dam), to prove once again the extent of its fear and cowardice in front of the free media that reveals its barbarism.

We, in the Media Council of the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM), while we affirm our continuation in the footsteps of the martyrs of the word, photography and documentation, and to work with all our will to be worthy of their sacrifices and the goals for which they were martyred, we condemn the international silence towards the crimes of Turkish fascism that encourage it to further criminality. Therefore, we call on human rights and humanitarian institutions and the United Nations to form an independent fact-finding committee and conduct a comprehensive assessment of the violations committed against the people of the region, especially the policy of targeting media workers and journalists by Turkish fascism."
